(Cavs Game) LeBron who?

Another outstanding game by our Trail Blazers. I love when the Rose Garden is packed, even if all those people showed up to watch the other team.

The Cavs were led by some guy named LeBron Something-rather that must think he is an All-Star because they called the play for him almost every single possession. But Ime Udoka was able to contain the LeBron guy who shot an impressive 8-21 for field goals, 6-13 on free throws, and also had 4 turnovers. All this of course led to my girlfriend to ask “I thought you said LeBron James is supposed be good?”

And again, like in the last 3 games, Sergio Rodriguez was the catalyst. The last 3 games, the Blazers have been playing a much different style of basketball. And as a result, they finally actually look like a good team, and are very fun to watch (even when we lose). They even get fast break points! The players look like they’re having fun too, which in turn makes them work harder on defense, and move the ball more on offense. Heck, even Zach seems to be having fun, and is working harder because of it.

We play Phoenix on Friday, and Jarrett Jack should be back. It is going to be real interesting how Nate decides to divvy up the point guard minutes. I think for a lot of fans, his reputation is on the line.

Obviously it's been a while since that game with the Cavs, but I'll try to comment on whatever I can remember from that game.

First off, I'm starting to become more of a Sergio fan than before. I definitely like his style of play and am aware that this guy is capable of sparking any offense. That is any offense that can run. I think that Nate is holding him back because that is just not how Nate plays. Nate has always believed in fundamental half-court basketball, that's how he played in Seattle. And there is nothing wrong with that. He has the perfect player to play that style of basketball, Zach. That's why he's been pounding Zach to take over the team ever since camp. Then all of the sudden Paul Allen drafts this Sergio guy that Nate thinks is a loose cannon. Believe me Sergio is good and can get better, but will he be allowed to flourish? And is he armed with team-mates skilled enough to run the floor with him? I can only name a handful of players that meet that qualification.

Lately Nate has been playing a two point guard rotation, Jack and Sergio. It keeps defenses off balance because both point guards bring a different game to the floor. But evetually Nate, or even the guys above him, has to decide which style of basketball the Blazers will play.

That was my view on the way they have been playing lately and I won't comment any further on the past. Looking to the future though. One of the hottest players right now is Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas, is coming to town Feb. 11th. He has sworn to take revenge on the coaches that snubbed him from the Team USA roster. One of those coaches was our very own Nate. He has predicted that he will drop 50+ points on the Blazers. Look out because he is very likely to do this against the Blazers defense. He did not predict a win however.

Arenas' latest scoring tear has sparked talks of him winning the MVP award. My thoughts? He'll definitely get votes this year. But he won't win it this year. Remember, MVPs not only put up big numbers but they also make their TEAM better. I'll definitely have Feb. 11th marked on my calender!
